How does the San Diego Memorial Society Work?

  • The San Diego Memorial Society has been around since 1958, helping San Diego residents plan ahead for the inevitable.
We have 10 mortuaries and 5 plans to choose from.
  • We have pre-negotiated the pricing with the mortuaries, so members are guaranteed the lowest pricing possible.
  • Bottom line, members save about $200 to $800 on a simple cremation and much more on burial plans.
  • Once a member, a packet of information is sent that will help them plan ahead. Fill out the little booklet, keep it in a safe place, and let someone know where it is kept.
  • Keep the membership card in your wallet.
  • You can either pay the mortuary in advance and lock in 2023 pricing or wait until the time comes.
  • It’s a considerate thing to do for those you love.
  • Membership can also be done after the time of death.

Don’t Wait! Plan Ahead… It’s a Considerate Choice for Your Loved Ones.

More than a million consumers in San Diego County have not planned for their end of life; many because they don’t want to think about it and others because they haven’t got around to it.  The fact remains that without plans, family members are left with decisions about funerals that are made during times of sorrow and bereavement.  These decisions are often poorly considered and costs are ignored just to get things done.  The SDMS seeks to help consumers prevent this catastrophe.

Some FCA affiliates have formal commitments with reputable licensed Funeral Directors to provide cremation or burial services for a pre-determined maximum cost. That cost is almost always lower than the cost to the general public. When you join, you have to outline your disposition preferences upon death. Do you want direct cremation, direct cremation with memorial service, direct burial, direct burial with graveside service or do you want a complete funeral?
